Business Continuity Management

Bridging the divide between business and IT

Business managers and owners must maintain the ability of their organisation to function following unplanned disruptions. However, despite the risk that almost one in five businesses suffers a major incident every year, many are not well prepared or think that the responsibility for it should simply reside within the IT department. It is an unfortunate statistic that a significant proportion of businesses fail to ever recover from a catastrophic failure, unless they have effectively implemented business continuity management to ensure that the business can continue.

Benefits

  • Management of current and future operational risk
  • Implementation of good business practice
  • Rapid recovery in the event of a business interruption
  • Demonstrates commitment to stakeholders including customers and suppliers
  • Reputation and brand protection

Kavanagh expertise

Kavanagh understands that the best and most effective business continuity management system is developed by taking a holistic approach. We evaluate an organisation's requirements and provide recommendations on how to better align IT with the priorities and demands of the organisation – based on best practice and standards. This enables the development of a plan to meet the current and future needs of an organisation.

BS 25999 and BS 25777

The introduction by the British Standards Institute (BSI) of BS 25999 has delivered a globally accepted best practice for the creation and ongoing maintenance of a Business Continuity Management (BCM) System.

BS 25999 was mainly written for the business. Recognising that a more technical guide was required to meet the specific needs of technology recovery, a companion standard, BS 25777, has been developed. BS 25777 is the Information and Communications Technology Continuity Management Code of Practice.

Kavanagh is the first IT organisation to be awarded membership of BSI's Associate Consultant Programme (ACP) for the Business Continuity standard BS 25999. Being accepted by the BSI to their Associate Consultant Programme is the ultimate assurance that Kavanagh complies with BCM best practice and demonstrates Kavanagh's experience with respect to BCM management systems.
